Gray stone : Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fine piece of traditional ancient stonework from the Colima and a lovely example of a hand-carved stone celt or axe, with a smooth surface and a curved cutting edge.
The celt has a slightly trapezoidal profile with a butt end that flares upward to the blade. The stone is a cool gray tone with mottled beige inclusions. Although celts were utilitarian tools for chopping and cutting that were sometimes used as weapons, examples like this were used for ceremonial rituals. A fine piece of traditional ancient stonework from the Colima. Custom stand included.
Black stone : Colima Blackstone Celt. Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE.
