Overview

Known for his Art Deco style, Jean Dunand was a Swiss and French painter, sculptor, and interior designer. He was born in 1877 in Switzerland, and by the age of fourteen, he had started studying sculpture at the Geneva School of Industrial Arts.

He started working with Seigo Sougawara in the early 20th century, from whom he learnt lacquer techniques previously unknown to the West. He soon became a master at lacquerwork, and today, his pieces are much sought after thanks to his eye for detail and perfectionism.
